How do I purchase a handgun in the State of Rhode Island?
You must have in your possession a RI Blue Card at the time of pick up in order for a RI resident to take possession of their purchased handgun. In order to obtain a Blue Card you must complete and pass a 50 question test, available at most gun shops in RI, The Department of Environmental Management or at PDTactics.
If you have your concealed weapons permit issued under § 11-47-11 (Rhode Island city or towns), you are exempt from waiting the required 7 days. However if your CCW permit is issued under § 11-47-18 (Attorney General), you are NOT EXEMPT from the 7 day waiting period therefore you can pick up your purchased handgun on the 8th day.
